News Post: Wednesday, February 21, 2007 : Mistake! By Chops
Alas, so this site is finally back up in all it's teal glory.

You might be wondering, "What the hell happened?"

Here's the short and skinny:

I was working on my server on a script for a client that did the simple task of deleting a directory and rebuilding it.

My script needed a simple command to delete the directory and it's contents:

rm -fr www

But I made the grave mistake of typing:

rm -fr /www

This mistake cost me all my code on here and poopinashoe.com. To recover the data, I unmounted the partition, and then made an iso of it, then wrote a perl script to scan the iso for any occurances of <? or ?> and then grab the next 2000 lines (to ensure that I got everything).

From there it was a matter of sifting through thousands of lines code and garbage to find the files, save the chunks, and rename them to the proper file.

Unfortunately, at the time, the poopinashoe.com code was similar but still different than the gummlanparty.net code, and in the end, gulp wasn't terribly busy, but we NEEDED the code for poopinashoe, so I never recovered the gummlanparty code.

Months go by, and history became legend, legend became myth, and for almost a full year, the data from gummlanparty sat, unused, and intact...all but forgotten.

November of 06 I decided to begin the recovery process, and proceeded to look for the database for gummlanparty. Alas, I had switched servers, and had formatted the one machine where I kept the data in-tact, forgetting that I had not backed it up.

...all seemed lost.

I scoured everything I had, every hard drive looking for any hint of a copy of the database, finding at best a copy of the database from 2003, until, by chance, I had made a single copy of the data and placed it in a buried directory on the desktop of a machine I no longer used, my old laptop.

The data was in-tact, and I restored it to it's proper place where it would get backed up nightly. Things seemed well in the world, but I wasn't about to re-write gummlanparty.net just for the 5 people that might come to the site, so I sat on the data again.

I began actively working on ThreadTags.com, the site that hosts this now, a derivative of DKPSystem.com, which is itself a derivative of the gummlanparty codebase, so the circle is complete:

ThreadTags.com is launched. GummLANParty.net is back, new and improved, and all is well with the world.

Bush Won. No Litigation. No Recounts. Very little Bullshit. I'm actually kind of impressed (which of course is sad, since this is how it SHOULD be).

News Post: Sunday, September 5, 2004 : Don't mind the errors if you see them By Chops
If you see some errors, don't mind them, they'll be gone in a bit....I'm just cleaning up some of the database structure....in particular Changing Dates from datatype "date" to "int" using unix timestamps.

News Post: Thursday, May 27, 2004 : HARD DRIVE CRASH!!!!@ By Chops
The Server on which I host this website had a hard drive crash the other day. They were unable to recover files, so I hjad to dig in the archives and scattered files throughout my various hard drives around to recover the lost pages. As a result, I will need to rebuild several files.....namely forum.php and reupload all the pictures.

Bullshit!
