Granted, it's a web poll, which means statistical relability is thrown out the window, but still it's interesting.

Zune HD?! I hadn't heard anything about a Zune phone. That's sure to be an awful pile of steaming crap!!

Still, cool to see that Palm has held on to its steam. From what I can tell the Pre will come out right around the iPhone 3.0 release (likely a couple days before). I really hope Palm makes a huge marketing push coming up to the release. I'm pretty interested in how the final product is accepted and what it can really do.

I hadn't heard about that either, but in defense of the Zune, I would consider it to be one of Microsofts better (if not their best) consumer-level products. I've had a 1st gen zune for over 2 years now, and aside from the leapyear bug, it's been rock solid, with regular automatic firmware upgrades.

I'm a strong proponent for the Zune. It's cheap and it's good. Woot.com has a refurbed one for $80 right now, actually. I just ordered one for my sister, who had her last mp3 player ganked.

I still love my Sansdisk Sansa. The default software on it is ungodly awful, but rockbox runs flawlessly on it. It's also pretty tiny. I just can't get in to any player that REQUIRES you to use some app on your computer to load music. If it doesn't work like a USB hard drive, I want nothing to do with it.

I did consider buying an older-gen iPod and running rockbox on that, but the one I got ended up with a broken hard drive (luckily I was able to return it) and they are just too big (and trendy) for me to enjoy.

I felt the same way at first, but the zune software does read playlist files and makes playlists out of them, which is a big plus for me. Not sure if the Sansa does that or not (that's actually what I had originally gotten my sister before it walked away a year ago).

Did I tell you she's in the navy now? Little Janelle, if you remember her. She was 9 when we graduated.

The Sansa (with Rockbox) will just use m3u files. If the paths are relative, they work without any added effort. The default software, probably not... but again, the default software on that thing was just awful!

My two big things with the required software are that the software usually sucks (itunes, windows media player, etc.) and it usually won't run on my machines (Linux). Plus, if I want to share the music with someone else, I don't want them to have to load some crappy software just to get it. In my case, you just plug the player in, copy the mp3 files off and you're all done. Plus, since it's just a hard drive, I can use it as a hard drive to store other files if I want or need to.

Man, your family is all hardcore. Jeff gets all super buff, Janelle goes off to the Navy...

June 6th, $300 w/ $100 mail in rebate. Plans range from $70 on up.

Personally, I think the price is way too high, especially since Apple is rumored to be dropping the iphone price to $99 this time around. Time will tell though, and you've got about 2.5 weeks to save up.

I'm so stoked. $200 is cheaper than I was expecting and at least $100 less than I payed for my Treo. I'll be switching from Verizon and paying the termination fee, but I think it'll be worth it.

----

If you've been with Verizon for a while, you MIGHT be able to skirt the termination fee by pointing out that they changed the contract on you when they raised the txt charges. Worth a shot anyway. You can probably also read around on other methods of getting out of the early termination fee.

I don't think $200 is an unreasonable price I guess (I'm looking at dropping $250 on an unlocked Nokia N85 myself), I just think that if Apple does make the new iphone $99, it'll be hard to get people to pick up the Pre.

The first line has started for the Pre. (I suppose one point isn't a line yet, you need two points to make a line)

Check out the review on Engadget. The Pre looks AWESOME! I'm honestly considering switching to Sprint for it. Though, rumor has it that Verizon will have its own Pre in 6 months, so it might be worth the wait... Sprint sucks!

Anyway, watching some of those videos and seeing how smooth the phone operates, I'm pretty excited about the thing. The Pre looks like a nice phone, and webOS has a lot of potential.

I'm still very much looking forward to it, and I'll be switching to Sprint for it, as it sounds like Sprint's network is decent, at least in the area.

I've heard that hardware seems a little cheap, and that the slider feels like it could snap off, or get caught up in it's own mechanism. Also there are some complaints about the keyboard with big fingers (which I have).

But beyond that, it sounds like a solid contender.

Though I'm not getting this phone, and barely use the phone I have, and have no need for a smartphone, etc etc...

I would just wait for Verizon. Let Palm work some bugs out and get it on the best network in the US.

Android phones will start coming out in the US this year. Things could really get shook up in cell phones for xmas 2009.
Looks like the pre iTunes support is pretty hacky.

Rightfully so, its a hacky code from the gecko.

I haven't actually looked it up myself, but is the Verizon rumor confirmed? If it's leaking like this, Sprint can't be too happy. I think they were really banking on this phone bringing in a lot of new customers. If the VZW deal is true, then it's well worth waiting the 6 months!

----

It's confirmed that VZW will get a WebOS device, though which device is undisclosed, and when it will come out is the completely undefinitive "Sometime in the next 6 months".

Sprint has announced that their contract with Palm is only 6-months of exclusivity.

I'm still planning on moving over to Sprint. If it sucks, and VZW brings out a newer, better palm device, I'll move back and eat the early termination fees. Frankly, that's not much a concern for me, since the ETFs are less than my current monthly phone bill anyway.

Jesus man!

But, yeah, if you want it that bad, get it. I don't know if I'd expect them to be getting the Pre, but who knows.

You can always wait and jump on the Eos with AT&T later this year.

That's not happening. I had AT&T when they were cingular and their reception up north was significantly less than stellar (read: non-existant).

I dig Verizon, and since Sprint will likely be using Verizon's towers when Sprint roams, I'm expecting decent coverage.
